Liang,

Great trip report and very timely too as my wife and I are trying to decide where we want to go for our next trip. Two of the locations we are considering are either Sangalaki Island or Derawan Island. I had the opportunity to meet Steve Fish on when we visited Sipadan 2 years ago and have been in contact with him about possibly going to Sangalaki in either Oct or Nov of this year and he has been very helpful......Rick

Hi Rick,

I am sure you'll have a good time in Sangalaki... Try to time your visit when it is approaching full moon, you'll probably see better stuff... jawfish with eggs in their mouth ( i didn't see that) and other wonderful stuff.

Please send my regard to Ruth (dive guide) and Steve... Not sure if they can remember me.

Cheers
Liang

Liang,

Thanks for the additional info. I understand the dive package includes 3 boat dives a day. Is there any opportunity for shore diving or night diving? The availability to shore dive at the 200 meter pier on Derawan Island is one of the reasons we were considering Derawan instead of Sangalaki........Rick

Hi,

Unfortunately there are no shore diving.... there will be night dive on alternate nights.
