Anyone wanna head over to Catalina and do a couple of dives at the Casino tomorrow? I'm kinda on the fence about it, cause I imagine it will be pretty crowded with holdovers from todays cleanup. But it seems like the only place with decent visibility and no bacteria concerns.

I would be up for it. I was trying to find a buddy to do the same thing but everyone is terrified of the water right now. If you want to go let me know what time and where a good place to meet would be.
Thanks,
Gerry Lattimer

I'm kinda holding out for some dive reports from today. Maybe if someone says it's incredible over there it will knock me off the fence. Weather doesn't look that great for tomorrow (it's been raining here this afternoon; there's another low moving in), and I'm not sure I want to fight the crowds at the Casino.

I was at Goat Harbor for my second dive today. The water was a little green with 20 feet vis at 130 feet. When we surfaced, there were already whitecaps and dark clouds moving in. The ride home was pretty rough. I hit my head on the ceiling of the boat and while I was trying to pull my socks on we hit a swell. I became airborne and hit my back on the ceiling. I also flooded my drysuit and HID light during the dives so tomorrow will be a maintenence day for me. Reports are coming in about thousands of squid arriving in Redondo Canyon today, so you might have a better time there.

Jim,

A few of us will be out there Sat/Sun next week. Your welcome to join in.

BTW: Vis is not that great today...info came from a friend that is out there.

had a HID flood today also :( (not me, but my light)
current was a little strong in a few spots, but we did Sea Fan Grotto, Eel cove and Africa point? and it was decent.

Sounds like Little Gibralter from the other two dives. Here's a dive map of Catalina. Maybe you can spot it here. What boat were you on?

Reports from Casino Point from people I know and trust indicated that vis was up to 60' in the AM but declined significantly (to 20-25' I think) when the clean-up ended and divers went over there to dive. Of course vis in Avalon Bay varied from 0' to 15-20' depending on whether other divers or bat rays were in your vicinity!
