i have been going over their websites, and i didnt find pages showing housings for their new cameras.
it seems they are switching to tough cameras, leaving housing production to ikelite etc, and leaving an opportunity for chinese manufacturers like meikon to gain market.

why have the big brands abandoned the market? because of gopro? but can go pro do macro closeup/flash photography? are average consumers interested in this stuff anymore?

A GoPro can't drive a flash...it's an action camera with the option to capture stills.

Because nobody knows what an f stop is and just use their c-phones. The camera companies abandoned serious photography years ago and as a result failed to develop an educated consumer base that might want weather proof and rugged cameras with actual controls for outdoor use and creative control at their finger tips, not buried in a menu or touch screen or interrupted by a text.

There isn't that big a market for OEM housings. Olympus do have very good housings available. Canon and Fuji have some housings. Nikon just got back in to it a little.

But there is a wealth of 3rd party housings available from Ikelite, Nauticam, Sea & Sea, Fantasea, Aquatica, and many others.

The one rule I tell people is buy the housing first; make sure there is a choice of housings available for the camera you are interested in. For instance, popular super-zoom cameras don't have any available housings as their lenses are too long.

Make sure there good support for add on lenses, strobes, and other accessories available.

it has been a long time since these big camera brands give up to produce waterproof housing. As present, gopro waterproof housing is the original equipment. Other waterproof camera housings are made by the third party like meikon and others for it does not have big market.
