Those of you diving a sock style drysuit with a lace up boot (ala the rockboot or Whites Altera or Evo3 boot), what do you prefer for insulating your feet? It seems really popular in the last few years to go with a fabric style sock and that a neoprene sock is in the decline. What do you prefer when diving dry?

Ok, maybe I posed the question wrong. Does anybody use anything to insulate their feet in their drysuit. Perhaps if the question is posed in a more ridiculous way it will get some more attention. Here is my attempt at a ridiculous response provocing statement:
"my friend's drysuit boots leak, so he is thinking of cutting off the boots and using duck tape to seal around his ankles. He wants to use seaotter pelts to keep his feet warm, what do you think about this, or is there something else he should do."

OK, lets try now.

I use a pair of wool sox and a pair of technical goretex sox over those (to keep the wool sox dry when walking in moisture on the boat). Then I pull on my TLS DS and tie on the rock boots.

The sea otter and duct tape was good, I love it.

I can't answer your question yet, I just sent my suit out to replace the boots with socks. I'll let you know in the spring :)

He could replace the boots with ankle seals and wear 7mil boots instead... They make drysuits with ankle seals (usually tropical or wake board etc..)

What are the water temps you are diving? The coolest water I've been in was 55* (not exactly "cold") and I had 2 pair of socks on inside the ds socks - plenty warm for that temp. range...

Aloha, Tim

Neoprene socks.... It works great for the rock and wet boots

Thanks for the responses, must have been the mention of seaotter pelt booties.

I'm useing neoprene - but why the odd specialty boots? Keds sneekers ( high tops of course) work fine :)

By odd specialty boots do you mean rockboots? I guess cause they come with the suit, and Keds cost money. Looks like neoprene is still the more popular option, which is the way I was thinking of going. I was told not to go with a fabric booty like the powerstretch or thinsulate socks.
