First time diving Dutch Springs this weekend... we were supposed to hook up with our friends at Lake Phoenix, but they're in NY so it's too much of a haul for them. Anyway, do I need to reserve a tank ahead of time? It says to call to reserve equipment, but I would think that tanks wouldn't be that big a deal to rent. I might even rent tanks elsewhere instead of there, seems they're kinda pricey.

Anyone have any recommendations on where to stay hotel/AirBnB wise? I was hoping to book a VRBO or AirBNB kinda thing for cheap, but it looks like there aren't many reasonably priced places that have 2BR with at least queen sized beds.

Best accoms if you want a decent room is the Sands Casino in Bethlehem. Everything else is a motel or low to extremely low end.

When we head there we usually stay at the View Inn & Suites Hotel. One advantage is they have a Perkins right next door. The people at Perkins are awesome and really take care of us when we come in. The hotel is average, but they have twin queen rooms that we put 2 divers in.

Thanks everyone! We ended up getting a 2 bedroom suite at the Residence Inn. I'll report on it after this weekend... I generally love a Residence Inn, but some reviews said that one is a little dated. Oh well, free breakfast!

We wanted something not too pricey but halfway decent since hubby and I are diving & our friend is doing his checkout dives. His wife had initially planned to get her certification, but unfortunately opted out. :( So it's kind of a diving and get together weekend. Wanted a little bit of privacy!

Thanks for the tip on the Lehigh Valley Dive center! $20 for the weekend sounds a lot better than $16 per day at Dutch Springs. I'll be getting my tanks from them!

Just watch timing with LVDC. They close before Dutch does so make sure you get back there in time to return your tanks. I didn't one time and had to leave the tanks around back and hope for the best.

You will love it! Our dive club is having our annual "Introduction to Northeast Diving" event this weekend, we will have about 40 members there, lots of us camp out overnight as well. Have your New York friends stop by, dive clubs are a great way to make friends and new buddies...

The New York City Sea Gypsies

I got tanks from Lehigh Valley Dive Center several years ago for a decent price. Looks like they are still in business.

Thanks for the tip! We're opting for the weekend rental rate, so we'll be picking them up saturday morning and dropping them off sunday afternoon... looks like they're open til 6 and we should be headed home by 3 or 4, so I doubt that will be an issue.

Sounds cool! I will mention it to them. Maybe you all can convince his wife to give it another go. :) I was really looking forward to having another dive buddy.

Normally we'd be all about camping, but the whole "no alcoholic beverages" thing, no exit/entry after hours, no electric or assigned tent spots, and the strict campfire rules are a turnoff for me. I'm not looking to get crazy, but I do enjoy a beer at the end of a day of diving while sitting around a campfire! I know there are similar rules at Phoenix, but they have spots and everyone was just sneaky about the beer. I imagine it's similar, but without knowing I didn't want to go that route.

Oh, and have you all seen the weather forecast for the weekend? Not big on camping (or diving!) during thunderstorms!

That viz looks great though - that must be in the winter. :) I'm not expecting more than 10-15 feet this weekend with the rain.

Yeah, watching that forecast, might just go for the day on Saturday and not camp out. At this event last year it was a torrential downpour! Still had plenty of BBQ under the tents.

Video was shot during season, not in the winter. There are plenty of places with good viz if you get away from the training areas.

Stop by and say hi if you like. I'm Mike, I'm the dive chair. Will be at the premium tent right next to the west dock on the peninsula side. We have a lot of friendly people...
