What is the best currency to use over there ?
Are meals etc cheap ?
How easy is it to buy equipment ?
What beer is the norm ?

Currency: Euro or Dollar (but they will take Egyptian Pounds ). Kidding aside, for making everyday purchases it is better to have some pounds.

Food can be very cheap if you don't insist on eating in Western style hotels.

I have not tried buying equipment, but there are plenty of dive shops around. Someone else may have better info on prices.

Egyptian beer is actually not bad (it used to be terrible). You will not find many imports. Prices of beer are high relative to non-alcoholic beverages, as most of the population is Muslim and not supposed to touch the stuff.

Some of the answers:
euros better than dollars - most diving centres moved from dollars to euros
meals can be very expensive and really very cheap (and great!!!!)
Bear - my favourite is Sakkara - very good one. Second best is Stella - both local. You can get heinekenn as well.

I'm flying in on Sunday evening, haven't had a sakkara for a while! :dazzler1:

Watch they don't try to overcharge you for your visa at the airport.
