I have the Canon SD 800is with Canon underwater housing. It came with the diffuser which works great as a set.

However, my question is how many divers ditch the camera diffuser when they purchase their strobe?

I have the digital 961D by Sealife and have not dove them togther or solo. I'm trying to downsize the bulk I already carry to the ocean.

Any comments; anyone out there dive both together? Does is make a difference?

Thanks,

MG

I guess I'll have to figure this one on my own... I'll report back to the board when I get some pictures...

The diffuser is useful if you are using only the internal flash to light your subject. I'm guessing that you are using a slave sensor on your strobe. With the slave, you will still have to fire the internal flash. To prevent backscatter, it is best to replace the diffuser with a "blocker" or turn the diffuser opaque - as long as the slave sensor can be positioned to see around the diffuser/blocker to observe when the internal flash fires. With my old Oly, I covered the back side of the diffuser with aluminum foil. My small Ike housing came with a diffuser and a blocker.

BTW, two bumps in a 21 hour period might be a little much. This particular forum doesn't get that many posts and traffic is sometimes a little slower the the main forum.
