Most deepwater fish don't have overexpansion problems. It's only (some) of the sissy-faced mesopelagics that retain air-filled spaces in their body. The bathypelagic and hadal species lack these.

But "deep-sea fishermen" only fish at the uppermost fringes of deep water, so their catch hauls can yield biased impressions.


Ever since those sperm whale findings were released, there's been renewed interest in examining long term decompression effects on deep diving animals. There's more than a few people pulling their seal and whale bones out of drawers and peering at them under the microscope.
