Thought I would briefly share our experiences in French Polynesia. We left Seattle around 5:00 pm for LA and caught the midnight Air New Zealand flight from LA to Papeete. Boy ANZ really takes good care of you. Customs was a hoot as three wide body aircraft all landed about the same time. We were picked up at the airport and taken to the Ferry for Moorea. Rented a car there and went to our hotel Club Bali Hai. Great palce. Not pretencious (sp?) but lots and lots of character.

We had done a lot of research on the WEB before we left. We went to the closest dive shop to our hotel which was M.U.S.T. We talked with the lady for a while but we needed more personal attention as we had our paper "C" cards, as we were just certified before we left. Ended up at Bathy's Club at the Beachcomber Hotel. Great facility, friendly people, good diving. Went on lagoon checkout dive, Shark Dive, Ray Dive and the Tiki dive. Very nice, vis ~100' Water temp 81F air temp 82F. No thermo. Gentle to no current. Excellent briefing and facilities.

From Moorea we went to Tahiti. Stayed at Le Merdian Hotel. Great place. Interviewed our hotel dive shop and decided we needed someplace else. Followed Bathy's recommendation and went to Aquatica Dive at the Beachcomber. Again nice place. Good facilities, good dive leader. Dove the wrecks (ship and Catalina Plane), and couple of wall dives.

Diving in both places was about $350.00 US for 5 dives. If you want more info on Tahiti please EMAIL. Would be glad to include a few pictures, some travel recommendations and answer questions. jim
