Galapagos Commentary Manta Season
From now untilJune, often referred to as the Manta Season, when the seas are warmer,
the air temperaturesare higher, sea conditions tend to be calmer, and viz is often better,
there are avariety of great deals being offered at incredible savings. Strangely enough,
this is acomplete reversal to when we first started running dive trips to Galapagos in1986,
when Decthru May was prime time and we seldom offered trips from June to November as
conditionswere cooler and often inclement. But then we discovered that the odds of
whale sharkencounters at Darwin + Wolf increased tenfold from Jun thru Nov. Thus whale
shark season wasborn and caused a veritable stampede. You will still get divers who will
categoricallysay that you should notdive there at any other time than during whale shark season,
but you may wishto consider the Manta Season and what it does offer !
Today only7 live-aboards dive Galapagos and with strict control over their itineraries,it means
there are rarely if ever, more than 2 boats at any island, and oftenyou will be the only divers insite.
That is pretty impressive for a world class diving destination in ourcurrent world where so many
dive sitesare over-run. With park regulation of no more than 3 dives per day, and nonight dives
permitted, the boats coordinate theirdiving so it makes it even less likely that you will see divers
from anotherboat underwater.
What isthere to see at this time ? Whale sharksare rare however Hammerheads and
GalapagosSharks are there on every dive at Darwin & Wolf. Plus Mantas, mobularays, spotted
eagle rays, marbles rays, giantschools of jacks, huge snappers, silkies, schools of "salemas",
possiblepods of melon head whales, wilddolphins, Galapagos Fur Seals and lots of fish !
Here are afew examples of some current savings:
Deep Blueoffering $1000 off their March 19-26 cruise making it $2995 pp in lower deckcabin.
Aggressorsoffering $1000 off all their trips from now until June 26 making them startfrom $3795 pp
HumboldtExplorer offering $1000 off two dates April 16-23 and April 23-30 making it$2995 pp + fuel surcharge
GalapagosSky offering 5% off select dates thru April making it from $4555 pp
Buddy Wolf& Darwin at Manta Season rate of $4500 pp
Two of the boatsare scheduled to spend 4 full days at Darwin & Wolf, while others spend 3days in these remote
rocky outposts.
Whale sharkseason from June thru November speaks for itself J
