Woman dies while diving in Għajnsielem

A 64-year-old woman diving in Gozo died earlier this afternoon after finding herself in difficulty while underwater, in the second such death in the space of 24 hours.

The German woman was diving at Bajja tal-Fessej, just off Għajnsielem, when she ran into trouble. She was brought ashore but certified dead at the scene.

Police were called to the area at around 2.30pm. Magistrate Paul Coppini is leading an inquiry into the death.

Only yesterday, a 73-year-old Danish diver went missing at Xatt l-Aħmar in Għajnsielem. His corpse was found later in the day by Armed Forces of Malta officials.
