I think point and shoots are WAY under rated. I previously had a Go Pro and found it not nearly as user friendly, no LCD Display, no auto focus zoom feature and all the videos seemed to have a "fisheye" effect.
I use a SX230 Canon Point and Shoot along with a Canon WPDC42 Poly-carb housing that is rated to 130fsw and has been to 150 without issue. The main reason I went with the SX230 was that it has autofocus while zooming and a nice big easy to read LCD display.
Add in some $199 Fantasea Blue Ray LED's and it makes for a nice inexpensive system that does a decent job.
