Thought I'd make a quick post -- as we're packing... :( -- about the great week we just had in Marathon. We were in Key Largo in December to get certified, and racked up 9 dives then in so-so conditions, so it was great to come back and dive without wetsuits!

Actually we got here 2 weeks ago, and did one dive on the Monday, but the rest of the week was wiped out by "Tropical Storm" Bonnie, which kicked up some winds and waves. We did AOW on Saturday and Sunday, with a deep dive on the Thunderbolt, which was super fun. Spent the following week logging 20 dives total.

Vis was mostly great -- 40-60 feet often -- and temps were usually 83 all the way down, even on the T-Bolt. Last couple of days it's been climbing, up to 85 yesterday (with a slight thermocline around 35'), though vis was slightly down. Overall a great couple of weeks -- we did some mangrove snorkelling to pass the time on the first week, and that was pretty fun too, with several turtle sightings. Lobster Mini-Season we avoided by going to the Dry Tortugas -- a great trip -- and spending a day diving from a [-]cattle[/-] snorkel boat at Looe Key, which was a fun change of pace, and Looe Key was beautiful.

If you're interested in vids, look for "AtticusLake" on YouTube. Our Coffin Patch vid is nice, and there are mangrove vids.

Highly recommend Abyss Dive Center in Marathon for nice, personal dive hosting on a comfortable 6-pack boat with tons of comfy dry seating. We really felt the relaxed and friendly atmosphere helped us both to make real improvements in our diving.

Cheers!
