Hi Everyone!
I live in Guam, and have been certified almost 2 years, but I still consider myself new to diving. I've only dove in the Western Pacific (Yap, Indonesia), and haven't experienced water colder than 78F...not that I'm complaining! But to me, an "experienced" diver is one that done fresh water, lake, and *shivers* dry suit diving. (hope no one gets offended by that!)
I work in a dive shop (mainly military customers) and I'm hoping to learn more about diving around the world, so I can give them more info on what they need long range, considering alot of them want gear that they can use in...oh...say Alaska!
Thanks alot, and happy bubbles!

Welcome, Scuba Bunny!
Lucky you, Guam. I've heard great things about the diving there.
Love how this board attracts divers from all over the globe.
Dive the Planet!

Hello Scuba Bunny.

I became a DM trough MDA in Yigo. Then began to work for Guam Tropico regulary on the Piera Veda.

When I left Guam I was quite spoiled. My first dives were in Panama City FL. We hit a reef to go spear fishing. All I could find was a 3 foot wide rock. I later came to find out that WAS the reef!

Since then I've done the quarrys, lakes, and rivers. Not to mention I used to teach regulary at Vortex Springs, Devils Den, and Blue Grotto. None of these will compare to what you have.

My point is--travel as much as you can while you are there. You may not have another chance to dive major destinations that some folks dream about! Once you get back to the states, then begin the other side of your diving education.

I still think the Blue Hole is a world class dive!

Take care,

Robert Hyde

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Everyone says that we are spoiled in Guam...and believe me, I plan to enjoy it as long as possible! All the neighboring islands are on my list (saving Palau for last..want to go out with a "bang" so to speak!) I've definitely decided to hold off on becoming an instructor. I'm too interested in looking at everything..don't want to have to watch students looking at everything! Ok, call me selfish!!

Take it its been a few years since you were here, Destin (MDA hasn't been up in Yigo for a while). Well, Blue Hole is still there, and is pretty much over-run with tourists! But the Blue Hole and the Toki Maru/Cormoran wreck dive are what we are known for I guess. I usually stick to the beach dives myself...cheaper and less crowded!

Welcome to SB SB! You can come dive Catalina if I can come dive there!

Just had a fantastic morning dive with Walter and Sapphire at Casino Pt. Best vis I've seen this summer... about 70 ft vertical. Beautiful kelp. Then the current picked up and by 2:00 PM it was down to 20 ft. Dive often but dive early.

Enjoy your idyllic situation as long as you can.

Dr. Bill
