I have a Halcyon Pro 6 can with the 18w head that i want to fabricate a new Nimh battery pack for. I'd like to get a substitute for either the Helios 9 or Helios 13.5 NIMH batteries, but looking on my own i've been unable to come up with anything other than 2 of these ( http://www.batteryspace.com/product.asp?3=432 )
4 amp hr. batteries together in my can. The original lead-acid batteries were like 3x3x11", so room shouldn't be a problem. I talked to 5th D, and the price on the 13.5 new is like $519, the Helios 9 is $430 and Halcyon charger is $188. Anyone have any experience with this one?

You're looking at a 8ah 12v battery right?

You can make one for a can that big from 10 high capacity D-cells and the charger costs about $40. I'm having one custom made for a light I'm building using something very similar to these whoppers: http://www.batteryspace.com/product.asp?0=217&1=228&3=325 for about $180 including charger. If you build it yourself you can save about $50.
