Hey everyone!
I am going to be in Orlando in June for a conference and would like to get a day of diving in. I have never been to Florida and am looking forward to it. I am from Utah and mostly have lake diving experience but I have been to the Pacific on some boat dives. I am looking for some ideas of something close to Orlando because I am unsure of my transportation right now. I am also need to know if my dive gear will be needed or can I rent somewhere.

thanks in advance!!

Chris

Chris,

The closest spring to Orlando is probably Alexander springs at an hour away. It's $6 to dive, however, you will need to bring your own gear (or rent from a shop in Orlando). Alexander springs does not have any kind of rental gear or tanks.

About 2 hours away you have a few more springs to choose from ( Devils Den, Blue grotto. Blue Springs, Ginnie Springs, etc). You also have Jupiter, FL on the east coast, which is what I would recommend for some drift diving. Personally, I get bored of the springs and only use them for practice, testing out new gear, or doing some BBQ and diving (I'm not a cave diver so there isn't much for me to do at a spring).

2.5 - 3 hours away you have Blue Heron Bridge, Pompano drop off, Lauderdale by the Sea, etc for shore diving. There are also a bunch of good dive charters in this area as well. I've personally used Jupiter Dive Center, Scuba Works, Jim Abernathy Scuba Adventures, South Florida Diving Head Quarters, and Pompano Dive Centers. Never had any issues with any of them and wouldn't hesitate to recommend any of them.

Hi Chris. I dove the aquarium at Epcot on a bus trip. Kind of a fun and unique dive especially if you have limited gear and transportation.

I live in Utah as well (Bountiful) hit me up this summer if you need a buddy, always looking to blow bubbles.
