About 20 years ago my wife and I tried Discover Scuba while on our honeymoon in Cozumel. Since then, I had meant to get certified, but life somehow got in the way.

So, this past summer my family was in Cozumel and my son and I decided to get certified, and it was amazing diving down there. Since we've been back home in Tennessee we've done a couple of quarry dives. Those were fun, but I can't wait to get back to the warm, clear waters of the Caribbean again!

Looking forward to learning from everyone here.

Thanks Icechip! I'm not giving up on local diving, but have to admit I am daydreaming a lot about going back to the Caribbean.

Tennessee's a long state; what quarry?

Cozumel is a great place; you got any tentative destinations planned? There are a lot of options, and for that matter, you don't technically have to leave the U.S. There's good, fishy reef diving in the Florida Keys, and you can see 'big stuff' out of Jupiter, Florida, or North Carolina. California's colder water diving, but a different ocean and species. And then there are all those sweet Caribbean spots!

I dove in Gray Quarry and Loch Lo Minn Quarry -- both in east Tennessee.

Right now I am trying to figure out how soon I can get back to Cozumel -- we love it there for many reasons. And if you're willing to fly to Cancun and take the ferry from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel you can get some great flight deals to Cancun.

I'm open to some Florida or Carolina diving, just need to learn where they have clear water and warmer temps this time of year. I'm not very interested in diving in colder water, and I can get to Mexico quicker and cheaper than California.

OMG! Just over 20 years ago I did Discover Scuba in Cozumel too and it grabbed my heart and never let go. When I got home from my trip I signed up to get certified and the next night I broke my leg. I cancelled my class and it took until 2016 for me to find the passion again and the time to get scuba certified. Congrats on getting certified and you're going to love it. For me it is a literal obsession. I got certified in 2017 and today I am a Divemaster and get paid to enjoy my obsession.

Good luck on your journey and don't dream about just the Caribbean, dive locally too. Lakes, old quarries, rivers are very exciting too and just add to your skills, and your adventures.

Thanks Becca! I'm a bit obsessed too now. And while we have enjoyed some quarry dives, I do find those warm, crystal clear waters in Cozumel (with all of the colorful creatures) calling me back.
