Hello all,

Well I've had my Oly 4000/pt 010 since October but havn't had the chance to go diving yet. However, I did manage to take some pics in the pool. Could someone please tell me how I can reduce the aquablue and glare that are on all of my pictures using photoshop...your imput is much appreciated (I know, a strobe would help...no $$$). Thanks

Hi.
To modify pictures you´ll need to practice to mask parts of a picture that take a lot of time... but general modifications can be done to the whole image using the tools: image -> adjustments -> "color balance" "hue/saturation" "brightness/contrast"....

just be sure to have selected the "preview" option, so you can see the results when changing values. For example If your pictures are too blue, you can increase the value of the opposite colors (talking about primary colors) the opossite of blue are red and yellow. etc... sometimes the image just need a little more contrast...

suerte..

In addition to the steps posted by pitah you can check out the process posted by David Kusner (the "mandrake process") on another forum for adjusting photos taken without an internal/external strobe. I posted the process on my PT-010 site:
http://pt010.da-kine.info/adjustments.htm

After applying that process to a photo and adjusting "Auto Levels" and sharpness (Filter>sharpen>Unsharp Mask) go to Image>Adjustments>Variations. A window will open showing several variations of the photo to pic from. One of them may be better than the basic results of the "mandrake process". If not then play with the hue/saturation and color balance to your satisfaction.

if you can do a search on here for mandrake action to edit underwater images. Im currently reworking the action for use in freshwater were there is a green tint to the water(needs magenta instead of red)

but if someone hasnt posted it yet by morning i will upload it

well it looks like gillian beat me to it.

also welcome to the digital darkroom, you will end up spending more time on your images then you think, because it gets addictive

I'm curious isn't that the Exact same action download available from the adobe studio site -

http://share.studio.adobe.com/axAssetDetailSubmit.asp?aID=8419

the one written years ago and not by you???
but that Does give mandrake credit for the process - becuase Mandraked worked with PS Elements for the development and could not write actions.
The one stolen by you?

The easiest way to avoid the blue is not to get them in the 1st place. Try using manual white balance and no flash (this is very effective in shallow water where there's plenty of light).

If you're stuck trying to salvage the pic, the "levels" or "curves" function in Photoshop is a simple way to make big improvements.
