Ha, yes, I'm sure the pros and cons of buddy breathing have been discussed in detail on SB elsewhere, no need to repeat that. I think a more realistic scenario is poor sanitizing of regulators between divers.

Right! And not diving with open sores would be unwise anyway. Fortunately, the hep-c virus cannot survive in saltwater and can be killed by a bleach solution. And surely buddy breathing is less intimate than sexual intercourse, so logic would dictate (to paraphrase D., Spock) that since transmission via sexual intercourse under the circumstances already discussed here is rare, transmission via buddy breathing would be highly unlikely.
