Has anybody got experience with HID lights for U/W video? What are the best makes and specs?

e.g. 2 x 25 watts, around 5000K is that enough, or... the more power the better... won't it burn closeups?

I think the best HID light going now is the salvo line. I am one of their dealers and have many happy customers. If you are talking about video you may want to consider two heads, but just as a flashlight I would only do one. I also sell diverite, they also have some good HID lights.

Paul,
Well, you definitely have plenty of choices. It largely comes down to budget, personal preference and the type of footage you are looking for. Here is a small list and some links to the manufacturers, I would look at them all before purchasing anything. You might find one that is just perfect for what you are looking for.
No particular order:
Green Force
They have a full line of HID lights for diving and for video. Their Squid line is distributed by Gates Underwater Products.

Hopefully this will give you a good idea or whats available.
I am sure there are more, so anyone that knows about them please add.

My dive buddy has an HD video system he uses two 50W HID light heads made by Halcyon.
They work great.
They are diffused and on moveable arms so close ups are not a problem.

Hunter sold me the Dual Salvo 24W HID's
very similar to the Halcyon setup Milo's buddy has but not quite as bright maybe?
They have worked very well for me, and I get about 150 mins burntime on the batteries.

The greenforce stuff I have seen but dont like the look of -- their battery canisters seem very odd -- sprouting out all over the place.

I like the Salvo because the canister just goes on my waist like a regular primary light.
