I have also just returned from Koh Lanta where I stayed for ten days. Did four dives at Daeng/Muang and they were simply aweseome. We spent about an hour at 10 meters on Muang while 3 mantas just cruised around playing with us ... fantastic.

Hin Daeng is better for marine life, huge variety of fish including clown and redtooth triggers, some huge barracuda, big angels etc etc.

Muang is a long loaf shaped rock totally carpeted in anemones. The viz on one side was great, you could see all the way down the drop off to 50 meters plus.

Stayed in a place called Lanta il Mare which wasnt great but it did the job. Dived with Koh Lanta Dive Center who were pretty good.

OK finally got around to uploading some of my pics from my hin muang/ hin daeng + similan trip. Here is the Manta we saw at Hin Muang. As you can see, we had great vis, but I was a knucklehead and had the wrong settings on my camera/ strobe for the first set of shots!

you're a knucklehead if you think them pix are bad.... I can say the pix were the "In the Raw" type and I like them very much.

no no, the bad pics are the one's I didn't post! Plus the wideangle lens was sitting on boat!!! The first set was way underexposed (beyond photoshop repair...) where the manta came up to within arms length of me... oh well, I guess I better sign up for mike veitch's yap manta photo course .

oh btw, those shots were taken on Dec 29 2005.

Hey batfish, if you look closely at on the middle photo (3rd one), I just noticed that you can see the reef hook at the far lower left!!! OMG! gasp! murderer! Now if someone would raise a stink about the herds of day boat divers with no buoyancy control all over the similans kicking up the real damage...

edit: and caloy, before you even start, they weren't "K" divers.. :D

Would it be better to do those sites on a liveaboard or from Kho Lantah? From where to go to do shark reeef anemone reef etc??

OOps sorry: Shark point ; king cruiser ( shark reef /anemone reef are in Sharm el sheik: Egypt; so we can consider that departure from phuket, lantah or from any Thai liveaboard will not make more than an extraordinary subtile diference )
