Another fun fact about the imperial units vs the metric system.

A foot is defined as 0.3048 meters exactly. (since 1959)


So you cannot use the foot without the metric system. :)
 
Another convenient unit of distance is the nautical mile.

One minute of one degree of the circumference of the earth.

so 40.000.000m / (360*60) ~1851.85 m
 
The correct term is SI units for System International. A "metric" is a measurement, so imperial units are a metric system.
 
I've always wondered which one is more dir, if metric or imperial.
