I'm not sure if you can change the sample rate on your computer but, I changed mine to 2 seconds from 15 seconds (I think) to get rid of these alarms. I have an Areis not sure how to change yours.

yeah...15 seconds is default...

I get the same thing, I was getting a "complex" because every time I went to look at the computer the red light was flashing! but then someone told me that it was because I was raising my arm too fast!

Btw...how many dives will it store with the 2 second sample rate? (just thinking about if I'm on a vacation and do a bunch o' dives that I want to make sure that they all get downloaded)

I have the veo250 and I get the same thing but its because I like to go up at 60ft per min instead of the computer rate of 30. I also hate to do a safety stop for 5 min so the computer will get mad at me if I dont and flash also.

You should make it your goal to not p*** off the computer.

While some are more sensitive than others, if you ascend slow enough, it will be happy and so will your body.

I am a new diver and have the Oceanic VEO 180.

I have been working on my buoyancy these past few dives and ensuring a nice even and steady accent. I was having problems not venting enough air out of my BC and dry suit and ended up floating up as I got into shallower water. The past 4-5 dives I have been able to maintain things right into 8' of water. I am getting the hang of things. :D

My question though is how finiky or sensitive are dive computers as my computer on a couple of the dives that went well for me still had flashing lights indicating a rapid accent?

Talking with the guys all they could think of (as they dove with me) is that it could just be me lifting my arm (with the computer on it) from a low position to a high position to vent air from the suit. Would this be enough to set off the rapid accent alarm?

Any thoughts?

Rookie,

I just got an Aeris XR1 which may be somewhat similar to your computer as the two companies are related. I was wondering about the same issue but I'm only able to play with the computer in the pool for now (without a tank) and freediving ascents really irritate the thing. I looked through the instructions and, while it wasn't real prominently spelled out, they do say that the computer only logs ascent rates that are maintained for 4 consecutive seconds. Do you find anything like that in your instruction manual?

juliejeff, that's exactly what I'm planning to do next season. I have the VEO 180 also, new. I noticed the same thing on all 5 dives I've done with it.

And I think there's another reason for moving it from the left wrist to the right...you can look at it at the same time as the left hand is holding up the inflator.

I cannot find anything in the manaul about changing the sample rate.

I have not got the "christmas music" yet, just the flashing lights. I am thinking about getting the computer cable however it is about $110 CDN as I recal but it would show what is happening. Ouch! just for a cable.

Instead of getting a cable why not get a Sensus Pro/Ultra. This will not cost a lot more than the cable!

You will then be able to download your dives and take a good look at your ascent rates.I often find my computer is a little unhappy with my ascent rate but the data from my Sensus Pro looks fine.

As others have said, just raising your arm can trigger an ascent rate indicator on a wrist mounted computer
