This is another example of uninformed people making "light" of a very serious, and potentially deadly issue. Last year alone there were over 236 deaths, and more than 2000 serious injuries in attempts to change bulbs when not properly certified to do so. Only last week an untrained uncertifed "changer" attemped to replace a dangerously high lamp in a dark basment. He entered the overhead enviornment without a buddy, or proper equipment, as he felt he knew the area well, no lines were run. When deep into the area, the door was carelessly shut , and the changer was completely cut off, and disoriented from the now total blackness that surrounded him. with no line to follow to safety, no buddy, back up equipment or proper training, he panicked, bumped his head, causing a nasty lump, and stubbed his toe. It was only after some minutes that he was rescued by his 9 year old daughter, when she, after hearing vile cursing, and terrible oaths, opened the door and provided an escape for the panicked changer. My prayers are with the family and friends of the changer, and hopes of a full recovery.
It should be noted that the wife, and daughter of the changer are furious at the lack of judgement, and horrendous cursing they were subjected to as a result of this fool hardy attempt. I only hope that we can all learn from this terrible incident.
