Would you like a better way to Analyze your dives?
Would you like to know what was the nitrogen level of dive 5 of your recent dive trip to Cozumel?
And what was the level of Oxygen Toxicity at the end of your nitrox dives?

We recently added to divePAL the possibility to import dive logs and even entire logbooks so you can then analyze them with divePAL graphical user interface.

Here how to import a logbook into divePAL.

First click on the FILE menu and select "Import Logbook". ... a small window will then open up asking you to select the "Import Source":

So far divePAL supports 3 file types: DAN DL7, Suunto SDE and the Universal Dive Computer Format (UDCF) and we plan to add more formats in the next future.

So, if you have a Suunto dive computer, it should be quite easy for you to port your logbook to divePAL and if you have a different brand, then you can still do it by exporting your logbook to the DAN DL7 format first.
Once you have selected the file format to use, export the logbook from your dive log software and make sure to write down where you stored it.

Now go back to divePAL and use the pop up window to locate the file you want to import. In our example we are using the Suunto file format and so we are looking for an .sde file.
Use the search window to locate your file, .... select it .... and then click "Import"

divePAL will now analyze your entire logbook and will group your dives in series based on the timing of those dives and the Residual Nitrogen Loading.
At this point you can decide to import the entire logbook (default option), or only a specific set of dives. Let's go ahead and import all dives .... click on the "Confirm" button.

Your logs might contain information related to specific dive sites - such as name and location. If that is the case, divePAL will check if your dive sites are already present in our database and in case there are some discrepancies divePAL will alert you:

..... to be continued ....

OK, we are about ready to start importing a logbook.

In this screen you can select which dives to import (by series), their privacy settings (public, private or for buddies only) and how to resolve any eventual conflict (in case you had already imported previously a specific dive) either by skipping the import of the dive, overwrite it or merge it (in the last case, the importer will replace only the profile of the dive).
And finally, you can also use this form to apply the settings globally (to all dives to be imported) or decide on a case by case basis:

Let's select "Public" and "Merge Logs" and go ahead to import the entire logbook.

If a log to be imported has a dive site name, and the importer finds a conflict for such name, then the importer will prompt you to resolve the conflict ..... just select the correct dive site, press "Select" and then press "Submit:

You are done!
Now just go to the main log page and all your new logs will show up as "imported logs":
