The need to replenish fuel that was used to generate body heat during a dive make the most sense to me. Next time when I dive, I will pay attention as to the correlation between water temperature and hunger.

Generally I eat very little before getting on a boat and little to none on the boat to avoid sea sickness. I am sure that contributed to the fact that I am alway starving after a dive.
