from sky news a poll has been undertaken on what foreign folk think of us brits. personally when I am abroad I am alittle embaressed to say that I am English. This is because of the stereotypical 'Brit' with a beer belly, kiss me quick hat, getting drunk everynight, fighting with the locals and wearing a string vest and a knotted hankerchief on their heads! Oh dear! So its an official survey and here is what other nationalitites think of US! And my american colleagues think its very sweet when I refer to things and objects as 'lovely'

The British stiff upper lip starts to wobble when alcohol and sport are involved, says a new survey.

Research by Mori shows Britons are still viewed as polite and reserved by the rest of the world - until "let loose" when fuelled by alcohol.

The poll was commissioned by the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce to use for its Great Britons Awards.

A spokesman said: "Whilst the British are seen as reserved, at the same time hooliganism and drunkenness were cited as aspects of British culture.

"Some respondents explained that when alcohol or sporting events, or both, are involved, Britons then let loose and become highly unreserved."

Most agree Brits have their own unique comedy, are fiercely individual, tolerant and have a strong sense of history.

However, people questioned in Chicago said British politeness and pride led Brits to be repressed, uptight and snobbish.

Panellists in Mumbai labelled Brits "haughty", while Italians claimed the British are tied to out-dated traditions and customs.

The Italian panel also scoffed at claims the British are stylish, though Americans confessed Brits are better dressed than them. "

I couldn't agree with my overseas friends more!! :11ztongue

lolol My mum lived close to a pub that was the new in thing round our way, one night I had parked across the street close to my Gran's house, its the UK most of my family were born and will dies within a mile or two of there first home, except for wars then the males usually travel abroad to kill there locals :)
anyway this night I was woken by shouting and fighting outside looking out in time to see a gang of men and women chasing one guy and another guy climbing a scaffold by my Gran's this guy runs along the roof line and he slips off the second storey roof and through the the roof and windscreen of my new car, he was found by the police under another car with huge internal injury's pissed as a fart the car was to replace one I had stolen the week before, I had 3 cars in 3 months stolen and one wrote off.

hmmm- I particularly like the wavering of the stiff upper lip- so terribly true I find.
I had a wonderful experience once- I was up river in deepest borneo on some independent jungle trip- I head to the little cafe area to eat, only to find a group pf fellow brits there. They proceeded to drink the place dry- during the evening the waitress came to ask them how much they were thinking of drinking tomorrow as she was sending a man in a boat downriver to the mainlad to pick up supplies. Well of course the usual- 10- no 20- no better make it 40 bottles had the poor Indonesian girl with a look of shock like she'd been slapped.

I think socialism would work well for brits... British people know how to content themselves in the simplest of things. Britons like order (shown by signs saying "Queue up" everywhere...

this is my opinion.
