Interesting. I am with the federation from Ireland.
Does that mean I can only deal with prospective Irish candidates who are already members of the Irish federation?
Or am I reading you wrong?

So much for a "world" organisation! Commercialism wins again.

The difference - commercial agencies show you how to dive, we make you a diver.

BTW having dived in Malta and Gozo a couple of years ago, I do intend to return. But I would never be able to commit myself for longer than three weeks at a time due to business duties.

Might give you a shout when next I'm there. Have a good season.

What I mean is that since you pay your dues to the Irish Federation, any course you do here will be credited to that federation, unless they have some other rule. And you can only sign off Cmas courses from the Irish Federation since you are a paying member. If a German, French, etc, comes along from thier Federation, you cannot sign off thier logbooks because you do not pay your dues to thier Federation. And a German Cmas Instructor cannot sign a Course Logbbook from the Irish Federation, etc.
It gets really complicated when you have 4 or 5 federations like Germany! I am not knocking the teaching system so dont get me wrong. Anyways if you are ever in Gozo, drop by.

I'm hoping to travel to Malta (Sliemma) for a month/two this summer to work as an AI (PADI). I know that AI's and DM's are restricted in the activities they can conduct in Malta and I'm wondering if someone can clarify exactly what they are permitted to do? Also, could you give me an idea of the sort of roles one would be expected to fill? I already have a position in a centre but would like to know if nixers with other centres are easy to come by (getting paid to do 1 orientation dive with customer or something along those lines)? I'm really excited about the trip. I've heard great reports about Malta and Gozo also (where I believe this centre makes trips to). I'd just really like to know a bit of background to the role of dive crew in centres on the islands (and also a bit about the nightlife  )!

I dived with Mark back in 2002 I think....god was it really that long ago!!! Anyway - Marks cool......highly reccommend Mark if you do want to holiday and/or work in Gozo.

Thanks Abby, look forword to seeing you again in Gozo sometime!!! The Malta rule says that a Dive master or Asst. Instructor can only lead dives for divers with a rating of 2 star or equivalent and above rating. But still it would be near impossible to get a work permit so I would check this out before. By the way, we are looking for Padi Instructors for season 2005 so if you know anyone. Stop by for a coffee if you come to Gozo!!
