I am just about to start my Jr year of high school, and am looking to start a scuba club. My school just moved into a new building last year with a pool, which is sort of what gave me the idea. Anyone have any reccomendations of how to get started, or any interesting activities that I could do? I have a great LDS that would love to help. Any thoughts?

Find out who is in charge of clubs and organizations and make a proposal to them. it might help to have something written down stating the purpose of the club. If they want you to have a constitution then look around the web at other clubs, theres a lot of University clubs out their that would be similar to what you want to start, and use the information they provide to guide you.

The other thing is make sure you have interest within your school community to build such a club.

Good Luck

Good Luck - With the liability and insurance issues you will have a hard road to hold.

My kids high school allows fencing but not scuba. Too dangerous!

Whatever.

When I was in Junior High, we started a club called the Salem Junior Aqua Club. It was affiliated with the Local Dive Club (LDC), called the Salem Aqua Club in Salem, Oregon.

But since you have a pool, and want an intramural sport, I would suggest that rather than scuba, play a sport which uses these skills but in game format. Here are a few you should consider:

Underwater Hockey

Underwater Rugby

Finswimming

Good luck,

Try and find a faculty member who dives to be the club advisor. Find out what you have to do to charter a club through your ASB, then write a proposal for the school board. Like others have said, it won't be easy because of liability issues, but it can be done. Don't try and throw it together, do your homework and research other successful scuba clubs. Also, find your state's education code online and read the laws concerning clubs.
This is from a teacher and school administrator's standpoint.
Good luck!
