I was pleased when I first read of this the other day since one of the three recipients, Dr. Martin "Marty" Chalfie of Columbia University, was not only a fellow competitor in swimming butterfly back in our high school days but also a friend and classmate of mine at Harvard. Kudos to all three recipients. The closest I'll come to such an achievement is either a "No Bell" Prize or the Darwin Award.

Dr. Bill neat that you know one of the recipients. Several my colleagues were pretty excited when Mario Capechi was awarded the prize in Medicine. They had all worked with him in the past few years. And a friend of mine was his assistant for many years, retiring the year before he won.
