I am investing into some new fins. I am looking at two. The Jet Fins vs. The Dive Rite fins. Looking for some feedback on both.

I own jets and have used the Dive Rites. The Dive Rites float. For some, this will be a blessing. For me, and my floaty feet in my drysuit it was a curse. I ended up getting it sorted out, but it was NOT fun.

The Dive Rites moved me fine in the water, and it really felt like I wasn't wearing fins at all much of the time. I was able to frog, back kick, and helicopter just fine with them. They are just very basic paddle fins, that are plastic, and float.

Not much to say other than that.

As for the jetfins, there's a reason they've been around since the mid-60s virtually unchanged, and are still the fin of choice amongst the technical community.

Good luck with your search.

This isn't going to help, but I just switched from Jets to OMS Slipstreams. The pockets on the OMS are softer and the fins aren't as heavy.

I looked at the dive rites, but the price is a bit steep.

Are spring straps avalible for the slipstream?

The slipstream fins are exactly like the jets in design. The difference is that they are lighter and the foot pocket is slightly softer. There are other threads on the board regarding this.

This is what I got from LP to go with the OMS fins:

Not the best straps on the market I'm sure, but for the money they seem like decent quality. The steel used for putting them through the pins is high quality. I just wish they used aluminum blocks instead of the delrin. There is no cave line running through the spring, but that is easy enough to install and I don't even bother.:)

I'd spend $3 more and get better spring straps from DiveSportsOnline. Some prefer the barrel style, some (like me) prefer the pull loop style. Cave line is in the spring. And shipping is cheaper (read: reasonable) from DSO. Plus, the owner is a regular here on ScubaBoard, and very responsive.

I use these with my JetFins, and at some point I plan to pick up the Slipstreams for use as a ligherweight travel fin, and I'll get another pair of these for them:

(for all practical purposes, Slipstreams and Jets are identical in every way except weight)

i have the oms slipstream and xs scuba turtles i have tried the dive rite fins they are a great fin lamar hires ceo of dive rite set the cave speed record in dive rite fins as for me i like my turtles for my drysuit and oms fin for my wet suit both with halcyon spring heals

Well,

I was in the water with Lamar on Sunday, and I don't know what fins he used to set the record, but if it was the fins he had on that day, he must have had a scooter tucked somewhere.... I didn't feel those DR fins moved me anywhere nearly as well as my Jets.

Maybe it's just familiarity though. I'm sure he knows how to get the best out of them.
