This year our regular Indo trip went first to East Sumbawa , where a year ago Kalimayy a nicely situated resort opened.
As always - of the beaten track - we were rewarded with only 8 to 10 international mixed guests ( Spain , UK , The States, Indonesia and German) being the only divers around in a circumfence of lets say 20 km. The resorts web adress
Accommodation – Kalimaya Dive Resort
The 6 spacious and well equiped bungis all have a veranda and great windows to see the sunrise from your bed ( 4 additional rooms were under construction)
The description of the website fits the reality, so I save myself more elobarated description of room and food. Everything was very good! Especilly the variaty of the meals and the "relaxing area" at the pool.

The diving:
Due to very strong winds and therefore bigger waves( pleasant at shore and nearly no mosquitos!) the bootrange was kind of limited.
Under normal conditions the 1 hour trips to Sangean vulcano ( black sand and great muck / corall kombination ) as well as to West Komodo and the rocky mini islands in the strait are no problem.
But during our 10 days stay, we ended up, beeing there unfourtunatly only four days ( 8 dives).
The other days East Sumbawa Coast with slopes and a lot of pristine corall garden was on the scedule.
A lot to see there - no question about that - and great for small stuff ! Many different nudis , flatworms, crabs and shrimp combined with a big variety of hard and soft corall.
But the reef topography itself was more or less pretty the same at most of the dive sites there.
The dives at Sangean, Komodo West and in the strait were definatly more interesting and challenging, due to strong to very strong current.( At Kalimaya canyon all but one of us 5 quite experienced divers - including the guide - did not make it into the channel - with 3 minutes the shortes dive of my history !) .
Big fish was not really abundand - at least didn`t we see too many ! Only mantas and some reefsharks - no bigger macarel or tuna eg.
As far as our stay went, it was more interesting for macro fans.
The house reef - a very slowly deepening slope between 2 and 12 meter, corall garden typ - was superb for night diving, what I did every night! Various interesting critters to see. Even a free crawling bobbit worm came along!
The dive planning was very individuell : in the evening after dinner the oppurtunities according to tide and personal wishes were discussed with young guide Evan( perfect English abilities) and the dive master Sam (over 23000 dives!!). This man was simply fantastic. Eyes like an eagle and an enourmous knowledge.
