There are many ways Force Fins are "smart." The open-toed foot pocket is an improvement on every kick. Leg extension machines, which replicate the more powerful part of the kick, don't require the user to lift from the toes. Using the top of the foot in front of the ankle is the far more comfortable way, and only Force Fins have a foot pocket that allows the toes to move freely. Using the full tail fin configuration of efficient fish instead of putting half on each foot as some manufacturers do is another improvement in fin design. Investing in that first drum of polyurethane instead of using the same basic material as everyone else opened up new efficiency by allowing a livelier response.

A surf shop in England warned about the pain of wearing the bodyboarding-style fins they sold. http://mypaipoboards.org/flippers/croyde-surf_swim-fins_for_bodyboarding.pdf

An online bodysurfing magazine has an Ode to the Pains. (raw meat alert) Ode to the Pains | Swell Lines The guy wasn't wearing "smart" fins.

Getting the right size fins takes just a bit of thought with Force Fins, but with Comfort Insteps to adjust to having bare feet instead of socked, the convenience of having one pair of great fins for different water temperatures is realized.

Thanks for taking the time to make the best fins out there, Bob.
