Lightroom 2 - NEF and DNG - 64bit

Did my first U/W total digital trip
Bought new computer with Vista Premium 64bit.
When I download the images in either format it will put them on my hard drive under "My Pictures" but there is no way I can open them from there (without using the Lightroom application)

Is there some kind of program, add on, codec that can be used to view the pictures without opening the Lightroom program?

I use Nikon's View NX (free from Nikon) to view the NEF files. Nikon does not support 64-bit, but it runs on Vista Ultimate 64-bit.
