6th Lionfish Tournament Organized by Cozumel Marine Park Officials May 11
As part of the continual effort to rid our island’s waters of the invasive lionfish, Cozumel’s National Marine Park Officials (PNAC) are organizing the 6th Annual Lionfish Tournament scheduled for May 11th. Working in conjunction with municipal authorities, the goal is to collect 300 kilos of edible and delicious lionfish. To accomplish this impressive goal, organizers are seeking over 100 participants. Competitors will be placed in 4-person teams in two categories: professional and amateur.
At the 2013 Lionfish tournament 300 kilos of lionfish were caught, and 100 kilos of their fillets were used to create the “World’s Largest Lionfish Cerviche.” This year, during the competition, which will take place Sunday, May 11th, morning, non-participants will have a chance to learn more about lionfish as local restaurants will be preparing a variety of lionfish tastings, and there will also be children’s activities, and an informational booth. For more information, or to register, contact the Cozumel National Marine Park.
