If you are a PADI OWSI with teaching status in good standing and will be in Varadero around Dec 14-19, then we would love to hear from you!

Varadero is in CUBA. US Embargo has not yet ended as far a employment of US citizens is concerned. It may not be a problem for Canucks, but for Yanks it sure is.

Okay. Is that inconsistent with anything the OP said? I assume he will find an instructor who is not a US person.

We just got back from Varadero. My son successfully completed his OW check-out dives and I had a blast diving along side with him. Carlos organized everything including pickup from the hotel, transportation to dive sites, and all required scuba gear. It was completely stress-free diving!! With 20 years of experience Carlos is one dedicated professional and a very successful entrepreneur. Next time we are in Varadero I would definitely be diving with Carlos again!

My son says that he now has a new hobby. Mission accomplished!
