Thank you, thank you, thank you.

My Mares Avanti Quattro fin buckle just broke last week, ending my diving, and I said to myself "I wish I could put steel springs on these beasts" And wept all the way home.

I can't wait to install them on my fins. So easy to get on and off-with just one hand.

Where do I send the "residual fees" for this great idea??

All the swearing and such to attach these fins... There is a more elegant solution for this.. stainless steel shackles, from West Marine or Home Depot. There is also a great pic of it here somewhere in scubaboard.. Adding panhead stainless screws even minimizes the possibility that they could get hung up on stuff.

I've used them on my Avanti Quattro fins and it always gets comments.. "where'd you get that? Those must have cost....

Naw, can't be.
Oh, maybe this one;

Commercial divers love gear that is rugged and simple, ...
just like they are. :D

Gee, try and steer someone to your thread, and... pipedope you are an inspiration. I would add that adding nylon "cave line" is a bad idea on these springs. It is by itself able to stretch 30% under load. There are very small diameter lines available at West Marine that really don't stretch at all, preserving the springs.
