Anyone see Mantas recently? On our trip last year we kept missing them by "just a few minutes" Some of my dive buddies are headed to BON tomorrow and I figured I'd check to see if they need to keep an eye out.

Headed there tomorrow myself. Also interested in any other interesting marine life sightings, especially of the more stationary variety. If hesitant to post open forum, just PM. Thanks.

djtimmy77, sorry for the partial hijack...

No worries I can tell them what else to look for :)

timmy, I have no info about your question( wish I did though) but wanted to ask how common are they there??/.(really the reason I'm asking is, my buddy & I had one come by us a couple weeks ago @ the Flower Gardens---that's in the northern Gulf of Mexico about 125 miles offshore from Freeport, Tx---& when I saw 'Mantas recently' in your post title, it made me think of this/that one---------

They are not common on Bonaire. However, they are occasionally present and more so in some years than others. Last January, there were a number present at several locations around Bonaire. I, along with numerous other folks, saw one along the cliff frontage at Sand Dollar. It (or others) had been seen repeatedly over days. The previous summer, one swam over me in just off the BDA dock. Last winter, I heard no reports of any.
