Hi everyone! Just wanted to give a little update on our mapping progress along the gulf coast. In the thread earlier this month we discussed adding a number of wrecks to our list. Ocean Wind tugboat, Janet Tug, Miss Louise and the Liberty Ship off Destin, will all be mapped over the coming week. We won’t be able to hit-up the Liberty Ship off Panama City and probably won’t be able to do the Tex Edwards, BJ Putnam, Vamar or the Joe Patti barge either. It was suggested that the viz is often too poor around the USS Massachusetts and that the Whiskey Wreck is often covered by sand, so we’ll skip those also. The Paddle Wheeler and Russian Freighter were both deemed a bit too broken up to be worth mapping. However, we’ve already done a couple of broken-up wrecks, which were well worth the visit, so we’re not ruling them out yet. It’s just that broken-up wrecks are very challenging and time-consuming to map because there are so many details to capture. We visited Tarpon yesterday (another recommendation from this board) and it was probably one of the best dives we’ve done here so far. Love the backstory also! And speaking of broken-up wrecks with interesting backstories, we’ll be mapping Empire Mica tomorrow. This week we also managed to map: Strength, Accokeek, Twin Tugs, Black Bart, Jeff-A Hovercraft and Dupont 3 bridge span. Thanks everyone!

Empire is a great dive. Mostly rubble, but lots of history there. And not often dived. Glad you enjoyed the Tarpon. One of my favorites.

Hi jviehe - I loved both of those dives. Empire Mica was a mess to map, but what an incredible wreck and so much life!
