Mare MRS1000 BCD pocket problem

I bought a Mares MRS1000 BCD from LeisurePro earlier this year.
after about 30 dives, It performs pretty good.
The problem I encountered is it's zipper pocket.
when zipper pocket closed, there are still a gap about 3 fingers wide that would allow smaller items to slipped out.
When this BCD is new, the material is stiffer and I didn't notice the gap. After few dives, the gap begins noticeable.
I have lost 2 Q40 lights and 2 foldable pocket knives because of the gap.
Anyone notice this problem? Any suggestions?

sew the gap shut, the zipper should still work

hrm or now that I think of it, you can even add velcro there so it doesnt restrict your hand when you reach in.
