Mariners Learning System™ OUPV/Six-Pack online training course is an instructional resource that combines broadcast quality audio and visual media in the form of online instructional videos, companion workbooks and on demand instructor based classroom training. Any student who completes the course will have demonstrated their complete and total knowledge of the information required by the Coast Guard for licensing purposes.

The course thoroughly covers the subjects addressed by Coast Guard exams for the following licenses:

    OUPV Inland/Near Coastal/Great Lakes (OUPV/Six pack/Charter Boat Captain License)

The Mariners Learning System™ online course goal is to enhance the safety and productivity of our students in the maritime working environment. Students who successfully complete the OUPV/Six-Pack course will be awarded a certificate that will be accepted in lieu of the standard Coast Guard examination!

This course is based on real life situations that will keep you alive and well while out on the water. It is not based on a bunch of theory that has no practical application in today's world. We teach the how's and why's not just the answers to a test... Unfortunately, most schools in the industry focus on teaching to the test. Mariners Learning System™ focuses on teaching understanding not memorization.

The Mariners Learning System™ suite of Coast Guard approved online courses has been built so that you receive the same lectures that you would get in a classroom setting. However, by being online, you now have the additional advantage of being able to listen to the lecture as many times as you wish, whenever you want and anywhere you have access to the internet. This is a true anywhere, anytime learning solution!

A popular feature of the Mariners Learning System™ online program is the use of on demand instructional video files that act like a personal tutor. For example, with each chart plotting question an online video instructor will review with you the audio lecture, show you the tools necessary to solve the problem which are included in the cost of the course. He will show you the solution so you know what we are about to do. And finally the on demand video instructor will demonstrate to you how to solve the problem. Once again, you can watch these videos as many times as you wish 24/7. If you need the additional help it is there, if you do not, simply move on with the course.

If you require additional instructional assistance the course has a Help Desk built into the online classroom. This feature allows you to have personal contact with one of our online instructors 24/7. Complete telephone support is also available in the event there is a question that cannot be answered via the online Help Desk. Access to the instructors is through a toll free phone number that is manned by our Coast Guard approved staff instructors Monday through Friday.

Mariners School’s online instructors are professional USCG Licensed Masters. Each has gone through a rigorous approval process and has met the standards of the United States Coast Guard to be certified instructors. They bring a level of knowledge, experience, and professionalism that adds to the total learning process.

Once the student completes the four online Module Exams they make an appointment to take their final exam at a Coast Guard approved Mariners Learning System™ test sites. No testing at the Coast Guard Regional Exam Centers.

    Exam Modules:

Rules of the Road: There are 30 questions which the student must pass with a minimum score of 90%.

Deck Safety: There are 20 questions which the student must pass with a minimum score of 70% to successfully complete the module.

Deck General: There are 60 questions which the student must pass with a minimum score of 70% to successfully complete the module.

The student must pass all modules to receive a certification of completion. If a student does not pass one or more modules, he or she may retest twice more without delay on the failed modules. Those who do not pass an exam module after three attempts must wait a period of ninety days (90) to retest. The student will be required to complete the entire course prior to being allowed another three attempts at each module. In this case the student must retest and pass all four Exam Modules.
