I just had a question from a friend of mine and thought someone here might know.

"We are trying to find out the type/name of knot that's on the front of the MARK V ~ the one that drapes down over the breastplate."

Any thoughts? or ideas of a reference I could use to answer this one?

Looks like a carrick bend tied in doubled lines if the picture I found is what you are referring to
 
Captain beat me to it. I think that is what you are looking for.
 
I would guess that the knot is not used in the act of using the Mk V but is more of a decorative way of storing the two lanyards used to secure the umbilical and other items to the divers dress.
Probably a Navy thing when displaying gear for inspection.
