As we come upon the first year anniversary of Matt's leaving his beloved deep blue ocean for that light blue glory of heaven, the FAU dive club has asked me to call upon his ScubaBoard buddies to join them on February 17th for a BBQ and beach dive in Matt's honor. Details to follow.

Da Fool and I were talking, and it would be wonderful to honor Matt with a day of diving!

It would be an honor! Looking forward to getting the details.

UPDATE!

Sun, Feb 17th, 9AM, we will be holding a small memorial service for
Matt Barton. You have the option of doing a beach dive of the Eurojax
or taking a Kayak out with the Kayuba club to the first or second reef.
After the dive, we will meet in the Seatech parking lot for a BBQ,
tailgate style, with food provided and pot-luck style.

For those of you who did not know Matt, he was a long-time local diver,
active in the dive club as well as many other school clubs and local
dive clubs. He passed unexpectedly on Feb. 18th last year.

Unfortunately, we cannot have a checkout dive at this time, so this
event is open to only current members of the club that have had a
checkout dive or are advanced certified or higher with a documented
dive from no more than 6 months ago.

If you need gear for this event, I will do my best to get you what you
need to dive with us on Sunday.

Please RSVP ASAP, as I need at least 6 confirms before Tuesday, Feb
5th. You may RSVP after Tuesday if we get 6 confirms to hold the event.

Mardie, I assume that this is open to all divers, correct? Is there any cost for food and stuff? May have a few SB members in town for the weekend and membrial, so let me know.

This event is open to any diver, kayaker, kayuba fancier or anyone who just loved and misses Matt. I am pretty sure it will be the FAU club bringing some food and the rest of us bringing something to share. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone again. I talked to Dick from Kayuba last night and he has been in contact with Jake from the FAU dive club and Dick has suggested (and is trying to get) another site that would be closer to the water for diving and has a launching place for the kayaks. He has also offered to set up several tents.
I will keep updating!
Love you all
Mardie
ps is there any way to give this thread a sticky note?

Beach dive, Eurojax, meet in Seatech parking lot by 9AM. One tank
beach dive, then a BBQ lunch at John U Lloyd state park with the Kayuba
dive team in memory of Matt Barton.
Please RSVP to Jake <jadamss@fau.edu> no later than Friday by
noon so that he can purchase enough food.
The FAU dive club will provide burgers and hot
dogs, but you must bring a side, non-alcoholic drinks, or desert
(enough for four, a cooler will be provided).
If you have experience Kayak diving, you may do so with the Kayuba team with kayaks provided by seatech.
Hope to see you all there
Mardie
