Okay, I admit it, I never believed that "hay fever" was real. Suddenly, at 40-something, I find myself with the "cold from hell" that isn't a cold. It's some kind of nasal thing; anyone who saw me at Scuba Show 2005 in Long Beach has probably purchased stock in facial tissue manufacturers.

Has anyone else had this happen? I did not have hay fever as a kid, but that was elsewhere. My Dr. is not sure about the cause, but he did say that with our rains this year, and the importation of plants from elsewhere, all bets were off. I have also been on a cleaning binge recently, so cleansers are not ruled out. Any ideas? Allegra and Flonase are working, but I am not sure to be cleared before my next scheduled dive...

Rain can equal mold in nature which could be part of it. I would bet that it is more than likey the dust and cleaners that you have been into on your cleaning binge.
I know most divers cringe when we here "sudafed" but it is an option even now, well before your dives.

I had the same experience here in NJ. About when I turned 50, I suddenly got severe seasonal symptoms. I got tested by an allergist which turned up a sensitivity to grass and ragweed pollens. My advice is to consult an allergist and find out what you're allergic to, then keep track of the daily pollen counts. Good luck

Me too. About the age of 37 (40 now), started having the snotty problem. Coincidentally, it was when I moved from town to a wooded area, AND just after having to babies.

I feel your misery. I too am at the mercy of Afrin and Flonase. But at least we have relief.
