I will be staying on Paradise Island the first week of June. I heard that Stuart Coves is a good operation, but it is on the other side of the island. Can anyone recommend a good dive operation
near Nassau and Paradise Island? I will be staying at the Atlantis.

Thanks

You might look into DIVE DIVE DIVE. I think they are on the same side as Atlantis. Could you give a trip report when you return? I am interested in Nassau and Atlantis (for the kiddos particularly). Have fun!

I hate to disagree, but DiveDiveDive is also on the other side of the island-near Stuart Cove's place. They will pick you up at Paradise Island-or any other hotel. If memory serves, the PI pickup was at about 7:45 am. (First on the van and last off when you are returned.)
I have made 2 trips to Nassau (2nd time at Cable Beach) and have enjoyed diving with DiveDIveDive.

Stuart Coves, Dive Dive Dive!, and Nassau Scuba Center are all on the southwest end of New Providence island. All will pick up and drop off from PI hotels.

There is a scuba shop at the base of the Paradise Island bridge (on the PI side) called Divers Haven . I've never dove with them, since most of the best diving is off the south end of the island.

I second Stuart Cove's. They have free shuttle service to and from all of the Paradise Island Hotels. They offer many extreme diving opportunities including their world famous shark dives as well as DPV "wall flying" over the 6000 ft deep Tongue of the Ocean. The diving on the southwest side of New Providence (where Stuart Cove's is) is far superior to the North:eek:ut: :eek:ut:

Hi Busted,

Ixnay on Divers Haven even though you can walk to it from the Atlantis. Regimented & mooooo.

Nassau Scuba Centre, Stuart Cove's & Dive, Dive, Dive, Limited, all over in the far SW of the island, are the way to go. All offer free door-to-door transportation. My first choice is NSC, with Cove's a close second. I don't recommend Dive, Dive, Dive. There is also a small, custom op over there, Sunskiff, but I recommend them only for advanced diving when you can take over the boat.

Hope this was useful.

My experience is from May, 1998.

Day 1: Dive Dive Dive

My buddy and I were escorted by a lovely Austrian DM who took the time to make us feel comfortable as this was our first dive following our OW I certification 2 weeks earlier in Monterey, CA. Wall/wreck dive was incredible (saw a reef shark as soon as we hit the bottom) and the second dive was at the 'Schoolhouse', shallow but an incredible abundance of juvenile fish. Too bad the wives weren't along snorkeling to experience this dive site.

Day 2: Stuart Cove's

Still can't believe my buddy's wife let him do a shark dive 3 days after their Nassau wedding! Sharks circling the boat before we even entered the water. Lucked out as there were only 4 of us in the group. Wall dive to 80ft was followed by the feeding dive in the 'Arena'. Videographer must have been a rookie because I had to edit the video when I got home to remove the parts where the camera was on when he thought it was off. He also missed a lot of the first dive when the camera was off and he thought it was on. All in all, an incredible experience! The video is one of my prized possessions.

Day 3: Dive Dive Dive

Another small group and we did a wreck dive that actually included two wrecks within 200 feet of each other. Visibility was incredible! (~ 150 ft) Our wives came along and snorkeled while we dove. An oil slick moved in during our first dive that led to some anxious moments. Never did figure out where it came from.

We were there from March 8-16...we dove with Stuart Cove's twice and I can second the good feedback about them on the board. They picked us up at our resort and dropped us off afterwards.

Good facilities and good people.

I went with Stuart Coves on vaca in September(started on the 10th to be exact) I was not impressed. Most of the dive sites were poor at best, and I was not pleased to be put in the ocean essentially on my own in a setting that I was not familiar with. Maybe I was a little spoiled after being terribly( or not so terribly) spoiled while on Cozumel in Jan. of 2001. I wouldn't go with them again.

Dove with NSC last May. They were an excellent outfit. Pick and drop off were reasonably quick. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The boats are also in excellent condition.....atleast they were when I was there.

I don't like to slander anyone, but I have only heard horror stories about Dive, Dive, Dive (aka DIE, DIE, DIE).

I have heard mixed reviews about Stuart Coves......but mostly good, only a one or two bad reviews.

I'm going back again at the end of May and will be diving with NSC again. I can't wait.
