Thank you everyone for your posts, prayers and discussions. I am Clare's sister. We are still awaiting the Medicial Examiner's Report to determine what may have happened to her to cause her to panic and need to surface so early in her dive. So far, there is not a simple answer. She had wonderful care by everyone from the dive master, lifeguards, paramedics and the nurses and doctors at UCSD. The Critical Care Unit staff were so supportive and helpful as we kept vigil with Clare for 10 days. As soon as we have more information, we will share it with you so that others may learn from her experience.
