We're meeting friends in Fiji August 1. They have a sailboat, which will be our primary mode of travel. Would like info on great locations and shops to dive with. We don't want to check into a "resort" because we have the boat. We fly into and out Nandi.
Would also be interersted in other ideas for interesting excursions, like hikes to villages etc. We like to go well off the comfy tourist path.
Thanks! Dan

I think back on Fiji with such warm fuzzies. This is where I first discovered diving and got my Open Water Certificate. Wow, I envy you!

Unfortunately I can't advise you on interesting excursions b/cs I stayed on an atoll, but what I can recommend is the dive op that certified me. Top notch service from the Plantation Island Resort. Great guys, very professional.

If you are interested in windsurfing, the atoll where I stayed is (apparently) one of the best places to go - Namotu island (near plantation). Their official website is not working but you can find some pix here: http://www.mauigateway.com/~namotu/. I hope this helps.

Dive safe & have a great time!

A group of us did the motorized canoe/inflatable kayak trip, it was fun and not too difficult. We were trucked up the mountain where we caught the motorized canoes, motored down, did some hiking, visited a village and then broke out the inflatables. We were all novices and did fine, one woman who was a former whitewater instructor and was the only one to capsize. We came around one bend to see about a dozen locals beating the water with sticks, someone said they were fishing. They should try a flyrod. It was a good way to spend the day.
