Carnival's Elation To Launch One-Of-A-Kind Seven-Day Cruise Program From Galveston In Fall 2003

MIAMI, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Carnival Cruise Lines today announced that the 2,052-passenger "Fun Ship" Elation will launch the line's first seven-day cruise program from Galveston beginning in fall 2003.

The 70,000-ton SuperLiner, currently based in Los Angeles, will begin service from Galveston Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, offering a one-of-a-kind "exotic" seven-day western Caribbean cruise program featuring a day-long call at Belize City, Belize; as well as visits to Cozumel and Progreso/Merida, Mexico.

The Elation will join the 1,486-passenger "Fun Ship" Celebration which has operated four- and five-day cruises from Galveston since September 2000.

"We're delighted to expand our Galveston cruise program to include these exciting new seven-day 'exotic' western Caribbean cruises aboard the Elation which offer an unmatched combination of spectacular ports, along with shipboard amenities that have made 'Today's Carnival' consumers' number one cruise vacation choice," said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president. He added that the 1,486-passenger Jubilee, scheduled to begin four- and five-day cruises from Galveston Aug. 19, 2002, will operate that program through fall 2003 then be deployed to another homeport.

Commented Galveston Port Director Steven M. Cernak, "Carnival and the Port of Galveston make a dynamic duo. Our business relationship has been outstanding. Carnival has shown their commitment to Galveston and the port intends to provide the necessary facility improvements to allow their Galveston operations to grow and prosper. We are pleased and excited that Carnival has chosen to expand its home port operations here and we look forward to a long, mutually rewarding partnership."

"Exotic" Seven-Day Western Caribbean Cruises From Galveston

Beginning Sept. 28, 2003, the Elation will debut a year-round program of seven-day "exotic" western Caribbean cruises from Galveston. Voyages will depart the historic Port of Galveston every Sunday and visit Belize, Cozumel and Progreso/Merida, each of which offers a variety of interesting sites and attractions, including archaeological ruins and pyramids, as well as gorgeous white-sand beaches, and myriad shopping and dining opportunities.

Elation Continues Carnival's Expansion from Galveston

With the Elation's new year-round seven-day Galveston-based cruise schedule, combined with the Celebration's year-round four- and five-day voyages, Carnival is expected to carry 240,000 guests annually from this fast growing Texas port -- the most of any cruise operator. "Carnival has enjoyed tremendous success since launching 'Fun Ship' cruising from Galveston 18 months ago, and deploying the Elation on our first seven-day program from Texas speaks volumes about the incredible growth potential of this market," said Dickinson.

Myriad "Fun Ship" Amenities and Facilities

Introduced in 1998, the Elation offers such on-board amenities as 12 "themed" bars and lounges, including a multi-level theater showcasing elaborate Las Vegas-style revues, as well as three swimming pools, a conference center, Internet cafe and 12,000-square-foot health and fitness facility.

Also featured are two full-service dining rooms, a patisserie, complimentary 24-hour stateroom service, and an expansive poolside restaurant offering casual alternatives for breakfast, lunch and dinner and 24-hour pizza and ice cream.

The Elation also houses a 2,400-square-foot play area for kids, part of the line's complimentary fleetwide "Camp Carnival" children's program.

Pricing and Reservations

Carnival is currently accepting reservations for the Elation's new seven- day western Caribbean cruises from Galveston.

Prices begin at $549 per person based on double occupancy. If purchased via Carnival's "Fun Finance Plan(SM)," seven-day Elation cruises are available starting at $26 per month (based on a 24-month payment term at the lowest annual percentage rate available). Actual "Fun Finance Plan" monthly payments and terms may vary according to the applicant's credit qualifications. Valid for U.S. individual bookings only. Certain other restrictions apply.

Round-trip air transportation supplements from a variety of North American gateways and special rates for third and fourth guests sailing in the same stateroom are also available.

Its nice to see the Port of Galveston getting some business. It could use the income.

I am guessing the flights would be into Houston Hobby or Houston Bush and then rent a car or they pick you up and make the 45 min drive down?

Thanks Natasha.

Wonder if they'll make a stop at the East/West bank of the Flower Gardens?

One of those ships would make for a heck of a luxury live-aboard! But I guess it would make for a REALLY long giant stride entry.
