We don't want to hear that you were found on the bottom somewhere out of air because you kept forgetting to check your gages!

I've found that the typical newbie photographer (ie mainly me) is far more prone to doing the opposite - concentrating on something and finding themselves on an upward trajectory akin to the famed Polaris missile.

I agree with everyone though - wait for a while. As bruce Lee says, "Don't concentrate on the finger, or you will miss all the heavenly glory". As a new diver, there is so much more to see than just what you see though a viewfinder when taking pictures.
