Stop eating orange roughy for starters. The commercial-sized fish you're eating today were born in 1904. Plenty of those can be found in western supermarkets.

You have to give credit to countries that have successfully argued the merits of "scientific whaling" as long as Japan has. I think it's something like 300 minke whales a year. A couple other countries also abuse this privilege, but not so flagrantly. The whale meat goes straight to the cannery.

What is particularly irksome AND SURPRISING is that the the international community has allowed this for so long. The Japanese are basically whaling on a limited basis, and making up scientific things to do with the animals as they are caught. There IS a lot gut content analysis done... this is argued as an "incredibly valuable tool" for determining the status of prey animal fisheries.

Not that everyone else is playing nice either. Here's a cute link to something the U.S. government is trying to sneak in under the table.

Use the words "national defense" and "terrorism" nowadays and you can get just about anything passed in Congress.

zboss:
Let's all thank the Japanese for killing hundreds of whales to figure that one out... yep... that ther's som' good researchin'

I'm with zboss. There's no reason to kill whales at all. Just another thing to go extinct and never learn more about.

that the whales and Al Quida are connected.

The only reason they are not grabbing whales everywhere is that the CIA has no idea how to interogate them.

Somebody has to tell the CIA that Dory in NEMO knows how to talk whale. We can get her to help interogate those pesky whales.

Just my 2cents
